What is romance?

What is romance? I think it varies from person to person, but personally, romance and humor go hand in hand. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and life in general sometimes. Of course, it does help if you don't laugh at inappropriate moments, oops yes, I do have a tendency to do that! But laughing when times get tough can strengthen a relationship. I've been married for twenty-seven years and the goofiest times are my favorite memories.

A Contemporary Countess

A former American foster child and a twenty-first century English Earl. What could they possibly have in common? They're about to find out!

A mischievous and sensual contemporary English Earl. A history loving American lottery winner, a potential marriage of convenience, lovable estate characters, the Earl's romantically inclined sister and her three playful old school friends, a Halloween ball, secret passages and ghosts stories, all make up the novel A Contemporary Countess.
Here is a longer preview:
When Darielle St.James became the sole winner of New York's biggest lottery jackpot in history, she knew her life was about to change. But even she had no idea how great that change would be.
After using her new found wealth to help her closest friends and her two foster brothers and sister, she set about assessing her own goals. Hounded by the curious press and fortune hunters, she moved into a small secure apartment building overlooking Central Park, and started work on her first novel. Now she had both the time and the means to write.
Online research for her novel, leads her to the estate of Adam Darfield, the Earl of Avanleigh, a struggling English aristocrat whose name is oddly similar to that of her Regency hero. Adam, she discovers has only recently inherited the title. He and his sister Susie run Avanleigh Estate, which is sadly in need of funds due to the enormous death taxes imposed at the loss of their father.
Dari's childhood dream of living in a beautiful stately home suddenly comes to the forefront, and she writes to Adam with an interesting proposal. She would like to come to Avanleigh for six weeks to write her novel in the historic setting for which she is willing to pay a large fee, giving them a chance to get to know each other, and if all goes well, to marry. Citing arranged marriages from the past, from Jennie Jerome to Consuelo Vanderbilt, Dari makes a good case.
Adam, stunned at the unusual request, is encouraged by his romantically inclined sister Susie to take Dari up on the offer. Six weeks will give him a chance to get to know the beautiful young American, and the fee she has offered will help with the taxes. While he is not committed to anything, marrying her would ensure the financial future of the estate for many generations to come. It was after all, what his own ancestors had done.
Dari arrives at Avanleigh to find both Adam and Susie are easy going and fun to be with. Things are going incredibly well. But as time goes on, both Dari and Adam, each begin to think the other is just a little too good to be true and are both afraid to hope that what is developing between them could be real.
When Susie's quirky and playful aristocratic friends from her childhood boarding school years arrive at the estate for their annual vacation, Dari discovers the truth. Adam has a reputation as an aristocratic playboy. From his youthful nickname the Voracious Viscount, to the current epithet the Randy Earl, his nicknames are numerous. Furious at her discovery, Dari confronts Adam, who reluctantly admits his past. But Adam has decided he adores the unpretentious Dari, and he convinces her to stay.
Dari is head over heels in love with Adam and loves the estate, with its historic connections to the infamous Henry the Eighth, ghost stories, hidden passageways and long time easy going staff. And Adam has awakened a sensual side in her that she did not know she possessed.
On the eve of her wedding, Dari and her new friends are celebrating her bachelorette party in the historic 'Henry Room' at the estate Dower House where the infamous king himself once slept, when they discover something that changes everything.

The Rainesville Ranchers-one complete novel featuring the six interconnected love stories of four Texas cowboy brothers, their over-protected but bossy little sister, and their playboy neighbor.

Follow Miranda, Trace, Eric, Ben, Jay and Cash, as they each find love in their own way, in their home town of Rainesville, Texas.
Join this engaging cast of characters at their favorite watering hole The Golden Saloon, go stargazing at the historic Raine Mountain Rocks, or enjoy a fabulous evening out at 'Brutus' the newest restaurant in Raine City.
Contains love, laughter, and explicitly sensual love scenes.
If you would like a more detailed preview of each character's story see below.

Miranda's Story. 'The Substitute'
When Miranda Courtright heard that her teenage crush, next door neighbor Trace Evans was returning home 'to roost', as he jokingly put it, she knew just what he had in mind. He wanted to settle down with the girl next door-her. But Miranda finds herself in a pickle. While in his absence Miranda has allowed her four nosey older brothers to believe that Trace was still the object of her affections, it's not exactly true.

Trace's Story. 'Second in Line'
Trace Evans had convinced himself that returning home to Rainesville after an absence of several years to marry his cute next door neighbor was the right thing to do. But nothing had turned out quite the way he had expected.
Seated at the bar in The Golden Saloon, he discovers an engaging blonde with a quirky sense of humor...but there is something oddly familiar about the beautiful stranger who stirs a memory of a long lost love...

Eric's Story. 'His Brothers' Keeper'
Eric Courtright the oldest of the siblings had always been the responsible one, so when his behavior suddenly becomes uncharacteristically erratic and he punches out his younger brother Ben on a trip to The Golden Saloon, his brothers are mystified, until they realize where Eric's attention is focused.

Ben's Story. 'Next in Line'
Ben Courtright, the youngest and according to the local female population, the cutest of the siblings is tired of the dating game. With his good looks and boyish charm, he began dating early, but it had become old really fast and very repetitive.
Seeing his little sister, neighbor and older brother each fall in love, Ben decides he too wants something more. So when he encounters an adorable former college friend of Darcey's at Eric's wedding...

Jay's Story. 'One for the Books'
Jay Courtright is the most outspoken and volatile of the siblings. After Mirry, Ben and Eric move out, Cash and Jay are left to their own devices. As the middle siblings they were known as 'Double Trouble' when they were young. When Mirry who is heavily pregnant with her second child comes to the ranch house to discover the usually pristine home in total disarray, she renames them 'The two little pigs' and hires an adorable but feisty Italian cook/housekeeper.

Cash's Story. 'Last to Fall'
When Cash finds himself living alone at the ranch house after his three brothers and little sister have moved out, at first he enjoys the peace and quiet and a little time to think his own thoughts uninterrupted. Until Mirry calls to invite him to a concert at The Golden Saloon where an English group The Hardingtons are performing. The lead singer is a cutie...

The Rainesville Ranchers. Who's your favorite character?

Have you read the Rainesville Ranchers? Who is your favorite character? Is it the stoic but gorgeous Royce, the ranch foreman, Trace the naughty but hurt neighbor, Eric the very responsible older brother, or Ben the playful youngest one? How about the two middle brothers, Jay the volatile one, or Cash the hold out, and also the last one in the family to find love until he's blindsided by a young English singer?
How about the girls? Miranda sure knows how to deal with her bossy brothers. Or Darcey, who runs The Golden Saloon and is used to being independent and taking care of herself. Or Isabella, the Italian chef with more than enough personality to keep the brothers and the ranch hands in line. How about Arianna who is sure she isn't about to fall for a naughty playful cowboy, but does anyway. Or perhaps it's Laney the one with the unusual past, or maybe Viola, the young English singer who finds more than she bargained for on her tour of the US.
I'd love to know!
